My superpower? Making money… for other people. I climbed the ladder in management and design consultancy, believing that structure, prestige, and a clear career path were the ultimate goals. I'll never forget a project in 2014, studying a renowned international consultancy haemorrhaging talent. A staggering 45% of their staff were leaving—not for competitors, but to become their own bosses. I remember thinking, with the smug certainty of someone inside the castle walls, "They're mad. Why leave this safety for such uncertainty?" Fast forward to 2024. The irony wasn't lost on me. I was the one burning out. Perimenopausal, bullied, and drowning in a 90-hour work week filled with everything I wasn't good at or passionate about. My sense of self was eroding. The confidence that once propelled me was replaced by a dull anxiety, even though a quiet, stubborn voice deep down whispered: "You are capable of so much more." My escape came in an unexpected form: a book deal. It was my golden ticket to resign and take a "brain gap." I travelled through India, wrote, and slowly, stitch by stitch, reconnected with my mojo. I began to audit myself: **What am I actually good at?** Design leadership. Design thinking. Change, transformation, leading teams. **What gives me energy?** The new. Working with people. Tech innovation. Helping change happen to enhance human experiences. The entrepreneurial itch was there, but it was shrouded in fear. No big cash buffer. No clue where to start. A deep-seated aversion to reckless risk. But one conviction was crystal clear: I wanted to make an impact—and a living—for myself, not just line the pockets of distant partners. So, I started small. Terrified but moving. I began consulting independently, taking on clients where I could do what I love. It was a proving ground. With every project delivered well, a fragment of confidence returned. Then, the universe delivered a masterclass in serendipity. On a cold day, checking LinkedIn on a whim, I found a random message from a stranger: "Keen on a side hustle?" Intrigued, I met him. The synergy was instant. Our skills were perfectly complementary. He saw me not as a lone-wolf entrepreneur, but as something else: an "intrapreneur." He said I didn't need to build the entire circus from scratch. I needed a "wrapper"—a structure, a team, a collective to operate within. He was right. That conversation changed everything. Today, we work across multiple startups. I still have my own consulting stream to cover the bills, but now I'm building my own popcorn stand inside a vibrant, collaborative marketplace. And this is the magic of the "wrapper": **It frees me.** I'm no longer a solitary figure carrying every risk. I'm freed from the toxic grind of corporate politics and meaningless tasks. My energy is spent on creation, not survival. **It energises me.** The work is new, human, and innovative. I'm using my core skills on problems that matter, alongside people who are passionate. The 90-hour weeks of drain have been replaced by focused hours of flow. **It de-risks the dream.** The financial cliff edge of solo entrepreneurship is softened. I have the safety net of a team and shared goals, which makes the leap feel less like a freefall and more like a calculated, supported climb. Most importantly, it puts me back in control. For the first time in years, I am the architect of my future. I'm building it not for a faceless partner, but for myself and with a chosen tribe. The overachiever in me is finally working for the right person. To anyone on the edge, feeling burnt out but buzzing with capability, hear this: You don't have to jump into the void alone. You don't have to choose between corporate prison and a risky solo mission. There is a middle path. Find your wrapper. Find your collaborators. Start small, but start. The madness I saw in those consultants back in 2014? I get it now. It wasn't madness. It was the courage to finally bet on themselves.
